The Good Times Continue In Our Business

Two years ago, we were all wondering if we should get into a different line of work.  These days the "boom" is back.  While natural gas prices stay relatively low, as of this morning the NYMEX Crude Price was at $106 a barrel.  Moreover, money is increasingly available to fund upstream activities.  Check out this article:   Banks today 'very hungry' to lend...  One interesting statement from the article, "We haven't seen this much liquidity in the system, maybe ever, but surely for a very long time."

Drill baby, drill!

Welcome to the Land and Legal Blog.  Your blogger is, yours truly, Steve Turkett.  I am an oil and gas attorney in the DFW area.  My practice focuses primarily on oil and gas title examination and transactions.

The Land and Legal Blog is intended to be a source of information to those involved in the land and legal side of the oil and gas business, such as field landmen, in-house landmen and attorneys.  I plan to provide information about legal developments and news of importance to the industry.  Additionally, I will cover various legal topics as they come up in my practice or otherwise pique my interest.

Sometimes the posts will concern new case law or statutes. I will also link you to news from the industry.  Other posts will address particular legal topics such as strips and gores, cemetery ownership, or the rights of surface owners.  Some topics will provide basic information for those who are new to the industry and provide a refresher for the more experienced.  Sometimes I will get into more advanced topics and some may be so obscure or esoteric that there are no clear answers.  All in all, I hope to provide something of interest and value to other oil and gas attorneys and petroleum landmen.  Check back soon.
